Senior Citizen Certificate of Status & Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Applications have been mailed to Senior Citizens receiving the Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption on their 2017 payable 2018 real estate taxes. Applications are due back at the Supervisor of Assessments office by July 1, 2018.

The Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption freezes the assessment at a base year causing the net taxable value to remain the same, less some material change to the property. It does not freeze the taxes, only the assessment. It is available on the principal residence of persons 65 years of age and older, who have owned and resided in the property for a 2-year period, whose household income is $65,000 or less, or to persons who have an ownership interest therein, legal or equitable or as a lessee, occupy it and on which the person is liable for the payment of property taxes.

All Whiteside County residents who turn 65 years of age during the calendar year of 2018 are eligible for the Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption, regardless of income and are reminded to apply for this exemption on or after their 65th birthday. You are eligible if you owned your home & occupied it as of January 1, 2018.

For more information, contact the Supervisor of Assessments office at 815-772-5195.
