Where can I pay taxes?

Tax bills may be paid by mail or paid at any bank in Whiteside County or the Collectors office. When paying by mail and return applicable payment stub(s) with your payment. Your cancelled check is your receipt. When paying in person or at a bank, bring entire bill to be stamped paid. Pay by credit card, on the Internet at www.illinoisepay.com, at Collector's Office, or by phone 1-877-455-3729 (credit card only, convenience fee required).

Do you accept postmark as a timely payment?

Yes, a postmark showing the due date is acceptable to avoid late penalty.

Is there a charge for duplicate bills?

Yes, the charge for each duplicate bill is $2.00.

How can I pay my taxes?

Checks should be made payable to the WHITESIDE COUNTY COLLECTOR. Your cancelled check is your receipt. Payment is void if made by a check which fails to clear the bank. There is an additional $25.00 charge for all returned checks

Taxes may be paid in full, in one payment, or in two installments. The County Collector cannot accept partial payments and they will be returned.

You can pay your taxes by credit card, on the Internet at www.illinoisepay.com, at the Collector's Office or by phone 1-877-455-3729 (credit card only, convenience fee required).

When are my taxes due?

Installments are due on or before due dates shown on tax bill.

Is there a penalty if I am late?

A penalty is effective after due dates pursuant to State Statues. Interest is added at a rate of 1 ½ % per month effective on the first day following each due date until tax is sold or forfeited. Parts or fractions of a month shall be considered a month. Additional costs may be incurred after the second installment due date. All payments made after second installment due date must include interest penalty and should be paid at the County Collectors office.

Do you mail bills to my mortgage company also?

No, you will only receive one notice. Separate bills are not sent to your mortgage company. If in doubt whether you need to forward your bill for payment, contact your mortgage holder.

What if I don't receive my tax bill?

Failure to receive tax bill or receiving one late, for any reason, will not relieve tax payer from paying taxes or late penalties.

What if I get a bill for something I don't own?

If you are not responsible for payment of the bill, forward to owner or return it to the County Collectors office.

How do I change my tax bill mailing address?

It is the taxpayer's responsibility to notify the Supervisor of Assessments of an address change for the purpose of mailing tax bills. If the mailing address is incorrect on your tax bill please fill out the change of address form on the payment stub of your tax bill, or contact the Supervisor of Assessments office for a change of address at 815 772-5195.

How do I pay a drainage tax?

If you are in a drainage district for which Whiteside County is the Collector and if there is an assessment due this year, the amount of that tax will also be included on your real estate tax bill.

How do I pay a mobile home privilege tax?

If your mobile home is located in Whiteside County and taxed as mobile home and not real estate, you will receive a separate bill. Mobile home tax is based upon the year and square footage of the mobile home. This bill may be paid by mailing to, or paying at, the Whiteside County Collectors office.
